The students in Mrs. Eck’s 5th grade science class have been learning about the planets. Using the “Planet Beach Balls,” they arrange themselves in the correct order from the Sun based on the planet they pick that day. At the start, they had 10 seconds to get into position, but after just a few days of practice, they’ve reduced their time to less than 5 seconds! 🌎☀️

Leadership Interview Challenge!

Students partnered up for an interview-style challenge with three tricky rules:
You can’t say “yes.”
You can’t say “no.”
You can’t repeat an answer.

What sounded simple quickly became a fun and laughter-filled challenge! Students had to think creatively and carefully while carrying on a conversation and following all three rules.

At the end of class, our top conversationalists even went head-to-head with the teacher to see who could keep the conversation going the longest!

During our reflection, students shared the challenges they faced and the strategies they discovered. They learned to expand on their answers, restate parts of the question to buy thinking time, and use a wider range of vocabulary. It was a great reminder of how communication skills grow when we step outside our comfort zones!

In Mrs. Eck's 5th Grade Science Class students did an investigation on Impact Craters. They created a simulation of the moon's surface and made the craters to see how the impact crater forms from meteoroids.

Our students brightened the entire high school by placing sticky notes filled with words of affirmation and positive messages on lockers throughout the building. A small note can make a big difference — and our students proved just that! 💛✨

As the wintery grip of the season seems to be tightening, the 8th-grade took some time to celebrate the history and traditions of Groundhog Day in an effort to bring some fun and enjoyment to the season, and hopefully some warmer weather!

The activities tied in parallel research, time management, and a honing of their Groundhog Day Bingo skills! Unfortunately, Punxsutawney Phil DID see his shadow, so it looks like the Comet Nation will have to bundle up a bit longer and dream of the arrival of Spring. It WILL arrive!, right?

In Algebra 1 and Pre-Calculus, students regularly take part in engaging self-checking activities that help them monitor their own learning and build confidence along the way.

Whether they’re completing a LOOP activity in the library, working through a matching activity in class, or creating pixel art on their Chromebooks, students receive instant feedback to see if their answers are correct. These activities allow students to work independently or in small groups, encouraging collaboration, reflection, and deeper understanding.

It’s just one more way our math classrooms keep learning interactive, supportive, and student-centered!
