Our 9th grade Physical Science Comets put on their scientist hats last week to tackle one of the oldest questions around: Which came first—the chicken or the egg?
Students didn’t just pick a side—they had to prove it! Using evidence and reasoning, they created CERs (Claim, Evidence & Reasoning) to support their conclusions, then investigated, debated, and defended their thinking like true scientists. 🔬🧠
And the official Comet verdict? Most students voted for… the chicken! 🐔🏆
We love seeing our students take big questions, think critically, and use evidence to back up their ideas!

Please join us in welcoming Emma Blandford to Genoa Area Local Schools as a new Intervention Specialist at Genoa Elementary! ☄️
Emma grew up in the greater Toledo area and has wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember. She brings 11 years of teaching experience, primarily at the middle and high school levels. After spending last school year substitute teaching—including eight weeks as a long-term Kindergarten substitute—she discovered a new passion for elementary education and is thrilled to be joining our Genoa Elementary team!
Emma loves learning, traveling, and animals—especially dogs and horses. She volunteers at an equine therapy center and hopes to someday become an expert at caring for orphaned elephants in Africa! 🐘 She has also traveled to four continents, with a goal of visiting all seven, and was a Fulbright Scholar who taught English in Germany for a year. 🇩🇪
At home, Emma enjoys spending time with her Boston Terrier, Max, and indulging in chocolate-covered almonds and Mountain Dew!
We're so excited to welcome Emma to the Comet family and can't wait for our students and staff to get to know her! ❤️💙☄️

Meet Our New Baseball Coach ⚾
Pending board approval, we’re excited to welcome Coach Steve Decker to the Comets family as our new head varsity baseball coach!
Coach Decker is a graduate of Springfield High School and went on to play four seasons of college baseball at Heidelberg University. During his time at Heidelberg, he served as team captain and earned First Team All-American honors as a catcher in 2010.
Outside of baseball, Steve is the Owner and Agent of Steve Decker State Farm Insurance. He is also very familiar with our school community. His wife, Kelly, is an ELA teacher at GMS, and their three children all attend Genoa Area Local Schools.

From learning new techniques to working together as a team, our young athletes had a great time learning, competing, and making memories! A big thank-you to everyone who helped make this camp a success! ❤️🩶🏐

New friends to be made, new things to explore,
New chances to learn and new paths to discover.
From classrooms to concerts, from fields to the stage,
There’s something exciting for Comets of every age!
A year to find purpose, a path to explore,
To discover new passions and dream even more.
To learn, to grow, and be ready to soar,
With endless possibilities waiting in store.

With courage to try and the strength to dive in.
So pack up your backpacks, get ready to go,
There’s so much to learn and so much to show.
