On Monday, Apptegy, our mobile app provider was impacted by the widespread Amazon AWS outage and part of that impact caused guardians specifically on iOS devices being unable to get logged in. This was resolved early this morning. If users are still experiencing this, we recommend having them force-quit the app and relaunch to try to log in again. If that doesn't work, have them delete and reinstall the app. And then, if it still persists that they cannot log in, try restarting the device. However, we should not see any widespread login issues for guardians at this time.

Please feel free to reach out to the technology department if you are still having issues. You can email tdbaker@genoaschools.com or call 419-855-7741 ext. 3906 and we'll be happy to assist you.

In ELA, our 6th graders read about the heroic service dogs who helped during the 9/11 tragedy. They learned how these specially trained dogs and their handlers worked tirelessly in rescue and recovery efforts, offering hope and comfort in one of our nation’s most difficult times. Officer Nye and Hailey, our school therapy dog, stopped in to talk about the talents service dogs possess and how they are used in our society.

Our 8th-grade students had the opportunity to attend the Ottawa County Career Showcase, where they spent the afternoon connecting with local employers and exploring a variety of career pathways. Students had a wonderful time learning new skills and gaining insight into what it means to be future ready.

Our 6th grade scientists have been diving into experimental design and learning how scientists collect and analyze data. This week, students explored the triple beam balance as a tool for measuring mass. By weighing popcorn kernels, they discovered and graphed the linear relationship between the number of kernels and their total mass. This hands-on investigation not only strengthened their measurement skills but also highlighted the importance of accuracy and patterns in scientific research.

Last month, Genoa High and Middle School celebrated their annual Start with Hello Week, a time dedicated to fostering inclusion, empathy, and connection while reducing feelings of isolation. Throughout the week, students took part in small acts of kindness, made new friends, identified trusted adults, and learned how to recognize the signs of social seclusion. The experience served as a powerful reminder of what it means to be a true Merchant of Hope within the Comet Community.

In STEAM class, our 6th graders have been busy designing, building, and play-testing their very own board games. This hands-on project combined creativity with critical thinking as students worked through the entire design process, including brainstorming concepts, creating prototypes, refining rules, and improving their games based on peer feedback.

Along the way, students practiced math and logic through scoring systems, applied engineering principles with iteration and redesign, and showcased artistic skills in the visual elements of their games, with one group even 3D printing their own game pieces and dice. Collaboration and communication were key as classmates tested each other’s ideas and offered suggestions.

The project not only ended with a fun game day but also highlighted how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math naturally connect in real-world problem solving.
