Assignment: Science Quiz over the Better Test Scores Workbook. Several questions will be selected and used as a 100 point quiz.

Procedures: After the students complete the science quiz over the Better Test Scores Workbook, they will complete an on line OAA test from last year as practice for next week's State Achievement Assessments.

Procedures: Students will watch video and write a short summary on the Tuesday section of this week's bell work paper.


If time allows, students will work on the Matter packet begun last Friday after completing the EM spectrum activity.

Some students have not started the packet and will need one to begin. Students starting the packet have either kept the packet in their folder or placed the incomplete packet in the assignment turn-in tray for their class.



Assignment: Class textbook notes over pp. 309-311 due on Wed.

Materials: Density Column; guided notes handout


Procedures: After a discussion of the density column as a bell work activity, the students will complete a guided notes handout discussing how to figure density.

They will then work in groups to complete the “Density Drill” activity worksheet in small groups. Answers to this activity will be placed on the overhead by student volunteers.


Assignment: Class textbook notes over pp. 312-314 are due on Thursday.

Materials: Video: What is matter and video quiz handout.


Procedures: After reading and discussing page 27 of the Matter book, students will write 3 interesting facts about the article for bell work. Students will then watch the video, What is Matter, and complete the video quiz handout. When all students have completed the handout, the answers will be discussed and the handout collected.



Assignment: Class textbook notes over pp. 315-317 are due on Friday.

8th Grade Science NOTES:

Lessons may be changed as needed.

Special note:  Students will start receiving review packets to help them get ready for the upcoming OAT tests. These packets will be given out on Friday and be due each Tuesday.  Students may do extra activities on these packets to receive extra points.  The extra credit must have a parent signature to count.

Curriculum Map and PI's ( no more to cover this year) Students will be previewing units which will be taught during the 9th grade science classes for the rest of this school year. 


Objective: Introduce fossils


Materials: Handout: Fossil Packet 


Procedures: Using Chapter 9 in their textbook, students will read about and sketch the various types of fossils that are formed.


Assignment: Review Chapter 9, section 1 in their textbook.


TUESDAY


Objective: Continue study of fossils


Materials: Fossil packet and Bill Nye video about fossils.


Procedures: After watching the video, students will continue to work on their fossil packets.


Assignment: Complete any pages of the fossil packet by Thursday if it is not already completed.


WEDNESDAY


Objective: Examine and identify actual fossils.


Materials: various fossil examples and large paper to sketch and color them on.


Procedures: Students will examine and identify 10 different fossils, sketch and color them and study their names for upcoming quiz.


Assignment: Complete fossil packet for tomorrow if it is not already finished.



THURSDAY


Objective: Review fossils


Materials: Fossil examples and completed drawings


Procedures: Students will turn in completed fossil packet and will study fossil examples.

If time allows, they will begin to work on the geologic time scale puzzle activity.

Objective: Review for next week's quiz


Materials: Timescale puzzle, scissors, glue, and crayons


Procedures:After discussing the answers to the fossil packet, students will work on the geological timescale puzzle activity.


Assignment: No homework, however students should be aware of the quiz over the packet and fossil examples and Ch. 9 section 1 next week on Tuesday.

Remind students that they will be in the library on Monday doing a fossil web activity.
