Algebra:

Objectives:  The students will:  1) Apply formulas to solve for given situations  2) Apply Basic Algebraic and Geometric concepts 3) Perform arithmetic operations to solve word problems  4) Determine perimeter, circumference, area, surface area and volume of various geometric shapes  5) Simplify Radicals 6) Define Triangles according to side or angle measurements 7) Factor Binomials and trinomials 8) Define basic geometry terms and apply those definitions.

Homework:  Geometry handouts.

Classroom Procedures:  The students will be given oral and written explanations of algebraic concepts such as factoring equations and reducing radicals.  The students will also be given oral and written explanations of geometric concepts. We will use a variety of teaching methods because we have a wide variety of learning types.  Students will frequently be at the dry erase boards, in groups or individually, writing down homework problems or solving unknowns.  The students must be prepared to explain to the class their organized way of solving algebraic and geometric problems.  We will maximize the time provided for our group work and/or seat work.

Monday:  Factoring Binomials and trinomials.  Apply the rules of FOIL.  Simplify Radicals.  Students will be introduced to Geometric Concepts.

Tuesday:  Factoring Binomials and trinomials.  Apply the rules of FOIL.  Simplify radicals.  Students will be introduced to Geometric Concepts.

Wednesday:  Quiz on factoring, FOIL and simplifying radicals.

Thursday:  Factoring more difficult trinomials.  Apply the rules of FOIL.  Simplifying Radicals.  Students will define various triangles according to angle or side measurements.

Friday:  Quiz on factoring, FOIL and simplifying radicals.

Pre-Algebra:

Objectives:  The students will:   1) Apply formulas to solve for given situations 2) Apply basic Algebraic and Geometric concepts  3) Perform arithmetic operations to solve word problems  4) Determine Perimeter, Circumference, Area, Surface Area and Volume of various geometric shapes  5) Simplify Radicals  6) Graph algebraic equations and/or inequalities.

Homework:  P. 347 - 349 4-39, 37-70.    P. 353 14 - 37.   P. 357  4 - 28.
