If you need some personal inspiration or for your child please consider the following. These are all sports-related stories. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Coldwarter HS defeated Patrick Henry HS in a state semifinal football game. After the game, Coach Reed from Coldwater collapsed on the field. Coach Reed is suffering from esophageal cancer. Coach Inselman from Patrick Henry quoted The Blade "Put it this way; I want to win state, but if there's a team that's going to win instead of us, I want it to be Coldwater and John Reed. There's not a better Christian man and coach than him." The quarterback, Luke George, from Patrick Henry said "It puts this whole thing in perspective, it's just a game." What a testament to life and the priorities this coach and this senior in high school have. Can we say the same about ourselves?
The second story is about Tim Tebow who is the quarterback at the University of Florida. I heard his coach, Urban Meyer, say on the raido that Tim Tebow has made it OK to be selfless by thinking of others before yourself. Tebow does an amazing amount of volunteer work on his own. Allow your child to read anything on Tim Tebow and you are absolutely making a good decision on what a role model is.
The third story is to see the movie Blind Side. This portrays a black football player who is taken in by a wealthy white family in Tennessee. A good family movie based on a real person. Michael Oher currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens. Two thumbs up in my opinion.
Until the next time,
