Scrip Information

Hey, Boosters,

As of April 1st, in order to keep your Kroger Rewards card current, you must sign up again at www.krogercommunityrewards.com and elect Genoa Area Band Parents as your chosen organization. Our number is 81398. Only one Reward Card number can be enrolled per email address, so any friends, relatives, etc., who are earning rewards for your music student need to sign themselves up. Once this is done, contact our Scrip coordinator, Sandy, at gandspollauf@woh.rr.com and let her know your Kroger number and the name of the music student who should receive the credit. If we don't know whose account the Rewards should go to, those credits just sit in Limbo. Don't want that.

Scrip will be ordered May 3rd, May 17th, and June 1st. Please use the current form and return the order with your check to the BLACK BOX in the CHOIR ROOM.

Also, keep in mind that even though the Disney trip is over, most students will still have band camp and incidentals to pay for. Scrip and the Kroger Community Rewards program are painless ways to earn money for band and choir expenses. Is there interest in continuing the Scrip program through summer? Orders and pickups will be monthly and will be at Sandy's house. Please make your opinion known at Sandy's email (above) or leave a message at 419-836-7893.

We'll see you at the next meeting, May 4th, at 7 in the band room.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is “Genoa Area Music Boosters”?

Music Boosters is a group of adults who support the Genoa music program both financially, through fund-raising activities, and physically, by chaperoning or helping out at music events.

Who can be a Music Booster?

Music Boosters are parents, grandparents, and family  of Genoa students in grades 6-12 who participate in band and/or choir.

How do I become a Music Booster?

There are several ways to join. You can fill out a Booster Patron Member form available online through the Genoa Schools web site. You can attend meetings, which are held the first Tuesday of each month (excluding June & July) at 7:00 in the HS band room. You can volunteer to help out at fund-raising or musical events.

What kind of fund-raisers do you have?

Some of our usual fund-raisers include Football Game Concessions (Fall), Tag Day (Fall), Fruit and Poinsettia Sale (near Christmas), and Century Pride Sale (Spring). We have an on-going Scrip and Kroger program (purchasing gift cards with a percentage kickback to our organization). During the spring musical, we hold a dinner one night, and have had a flower sale and raffle. For three years, we have hosted the Middle School Solo and Ensemble competition. In addition, we have tried a Monte Carlo night, a Greek town bus trip, and ink cartridge rebates. We are always looking for new ways to raise money as well.

Where does all that money go?

Like any organization, we have bills to pay, including replacing old or damaged instruments, replenishing supplies like paper and stamps, paying salaries of our support staff (auxiliary advisors, etc), keeping the instrument truck in good running condition, and providing food for the concession stand (and hungry music students!). In addition, we try each year to accomplish some sort of major purchase for the music department. In the past 10 years we have purchased new percussion equipment, a sousaphone, choir robes for the entire choir, additional risers for the choir, the instrument bus and most recently, new band uniforms. We are looking next at providing funds for a high-school-based recording studio for staff and students to use.

  How can I help?

We’re glad you asked! You can become a Booster Patron Member, and get your name in all music event programs. You can support our fund-raising activities by purchasing the items we have for sale. You can volunteer to help out, by working in the concession stand during a football game, helping with sales during concerts or the musical, becoming a Booster officer, organizing one of our fund-raising events, and coming to Booster meetings.

Besides performing in choir or band, what else can my child do?

The choir and band take a major performing trip every two years. In 2008, they traveled to Chicago. In 2010, there will be a Disney trip to Florida. These trips are a lot of fun, as well as a lot of work preparing for the performances. For band students, there is band camp at the end of July each summer, and of course, half time shows at home and away football games.

Sounds expensive. How do we pay for all this fun?

We “pay” our students to participate in the various fund raisers using Booster Bucks.  (NO money actually changes hands!) For example, working (students and /or parents) in the concession stand “pays” $3.00/hour to the student’s account. Students earn a percentage of the profit from items they sell in the Fruit & Flower Sale and the Century Pride Sale. Tag Day proceeds are split between the Booster organization and the students who work that day. The Scrip and Kroger programs kickback a percentage of the purchase to the student’s Booster Bucks account. Students earn Booster Bucks if their parents are Booster officers or chaperone band camp. Booster Bucks are “banked”, and then when it is time for a trip or band camp, the Booster Buck amount is subtracted from the total due, reducing your final cost.

 Help! I’m still confused!

That’s OK!       You can contact one of our Booster officers for more information.
