On August 31, 2009 Genoa Preschool opened its door in Room 6 at Brunner Elementary School. Thanks to the cooperative efforts of administrators of the Genoa Area Local Schools and the North Point Educational Service Center, Genoa preschoolers with developmental disabilities and children who are typically developing, no longer have to be bussed or driven to a site outside of their community to attend an inclusive preschool. The Genoa Board of Education has also realized a savings in transportation costs by housing the preschool in Genoa.
The Genoa Preschool Program has a morning and afternoon session with 7 children, ages 3-5, currently enrolled in each session. Maximum enrollment of children in either session is 16. No more than 8 children in either session attend the program under an Individualized Education Program(IEP). The remaining 8 children in each session attend on a tuition basis.
Cathy Lockwood, an employee of the North Point Educational Service Center, is the early childhood/intervention specialist at the preschool. Marisha Everett is the educational assistant.
For more information on this developmentally appropriate early childhood program, contact Debbie Graber, Central Office Secretary, at 1-419-684-5385, Ext. 32.
